Gruff Rhys announces new album, film, book and app Super Furry Animals Tickets

Super Furry Animals man also reveals trailer for new multimedia project 'American Interior' - watch

Super Furry Animals and Neon Neon frontman Gruff Rhys has announced plans for a new album, film, book and app based on a distant relative.

The multi-media project – 'American Interior' – will see a 13-song album released on May 5, followed by a book, a film directed by Dylan Goch documenting Rhys' 2012 tour and an app consisting of 100 entries documenting the story of John Evans, a Welsh farmhand who travelled to America in 1792 in an attempt to discover whether legends about a Welsh-speaking Native American tribe called the Madogwys were true.

A trailer for the project can be viewed above. In the summer of 2012 Rhys retraced Evans' journey, by playing gigs during which he described his ancestor's trek. It follows the singer's previous 2010 documentary, Separado!, which was also directed by Goch. That film documented Rhys' trip to Patagonia where he met members of his family whose ancestors had emigrated in Victorian times.

Meanwhile, Super Furry Animals recently announced plans to launch their own beer. The Welsh band have worked with the Celt Experience Brewery to create Fuzzy – named after the band's 1996 debut album 'Fuzzy Logic' – an 8.5 per cent ABV "psychedelic wild Welsh beer", which will be unveiled at the Fire Festival on February 1 at the Pontygwindy Estate in Caerphilly.
