Supergrass get police escort to LA gig

Supergrass got a police escort to their headlining gig in Hollywood Saturday night (July 12) after unexpectedly being asked to perform at The Who tribute gig across town.

The Oxford band had to rush from one end of Los Angeles to the other in order to make it back in time to play their headlining gig at the Avalon Theatre, as previously reported.

"We almost didn't make it here," Coombes told the packed house. "We had a police escort from the VH1 Who Tribute, as you do."

Supergrass played a tight, high-energy set filled with material from their new album 'Diamond Hoo Ha' as well as a smattering of tracks from throughout their 14-year career.

The Coombes brothers' youngest sibling Charlie joined Supergrass on stage playing second guitar and percussion on several songs during the band's nearly two-hour set.

"Here we are again. I love this fucking city," Gaz gushed before launching into 'Rebel In You'.

The band ended the night with a rousing three-song encore that culminated with the band throwing their instruments across the stage and taking a group bow.

Their Los Angeles show was one of just two headlining gigs the band will play in the US this summer, which sees them supporting the Foo Fighters on tour throughout the country.

"It's good to play our own show -- it'll be a lot longer set," keyboardists Rob Coombes told NME.COM before the show. "We have a good setlist we're all into with a mix of our hits and 'Diamond Hoo Ha'."

Supergrass played:

'Diamond Hoo Ha Man'
'Bad Blood'
'She's So Loose'

'Mary'
'345'
'Late In The Day'
'Rebel in You'
'Ghost of a Friend'
'Brecon Beacons'
'Outside'
'St Petersburg'
'Moving'
'Fin'
'Richard III'
'Sun Hits The Sky'
'Pumping On Your Stereo'
'Alright'
'Next To You'
'Caught By The Fuzz'
