A Place to Bury Strangers kick off SXSW day one

A Place To Bury Strangers were one of the first bands to play at SXSW in Austin today (March 12), playing a tremendously loud show at Mohawk.

The self-proclaimed "loudest band in New York" took to the stage at 1:15pm (CMT) at Mohawk, kicking off their decibel-defying set with 'Gimme Acid'.

Guitarist/vocalist Oliver Ackerman channeled the band’s trademark distorted sound via his self-built pedals, prompting much of the packed house to dig for their earplugs.

The show was the first of three today for A Place To Bury Strangers, who are also on the bill for this week’s three-day NME extravaganza at the Wave venue, kicking off tomorrow.

Stayed tuned to NME.COM for all the latest from Austin, including live reports from The Raveonettes, Ra Ra Riot, Van Morrison, The Ting Tings and The Duke Spirit.

A Place To Bury Strangers played:

‘Gimme Acid’
‘To Fix The Gash In Your Head’
‘Deadbeat’
‘I Know I’ll See You’
‘I Live My Life To Stand In The Shadow Of Your Heart’
‘Ocean’
