Motorhead played a special one-off show today (March 13) at Stubb’s, Austin for Vice at SXSW 2008.
Playing in the sizzling heat on an outdoor stage, the three-piece's hour-long set did not disappoint the hard-core following who had braved the temperature to get into the gig.
Taking to the stage at 3pm (CMT) wearing all black garbs plus a cowboy hat and shades, frontman Lemmy said, "We are Motorhead and we play rock’n’roll," before launching into a bursting set.
Despite their obvious excitement the crowd remained tame throughout the set, mainly due to moshing and crowd-surfing restrictions from the strict venue security.
Lemmy showed his appreciation to the gathered fans though, many of whom had been crowding round the block for hours to get in, by saying, "It's nice to be back in Texas, especially Austin. We haven't played here for a while it's good to be here. We'll count to three then we want you to make more noise than you ever have". The crowd screamed back with deafening approval.
Throughout the set the band drank beer and cheered each other and the crowd after each song.
Playing mainly tracks from their newer albums, the band left their original anthem for the end of the set, finishing the gig with 'Ace Of Spades' and 'Overkill'. The crowd head-banged and punching the air in delight. A couple of crowd surfers even defied strict security rules.
Before launching into an extended version of their final track, Lemmy said, "Don't forget us we are Motorhead and we play fucking rock and roll!", to which the crowd cheered with mass approval.
