The Breeders preview new material at SXSW

The Deal sisters also throw some classics into the mix

The Breeders previewed several new songs at South by Southwest tonight (March 15), bringing the Mess With Texas barbeque to a climactic close.

The Deal sisters delivered their trademark harmonies and surf guitar riffs on the new tracks from their forthcoming album 'Mountain Battles', which is due out in April.

Famed Pixies bassist Kim Deal played guitar and sounded strong on lead vocals, despite technical troubles creating static.

Still the new material left some audience members cold, with several people drifting away after the fourth new song in a row.

The band soon made up for it by playing their 1993 mega-hit 'Cannonball' as well as old favourites 'Doe', 'Hellbound' and a cover of The Beatles 'Happiness Is A Warm Gun', which appeared on their 1990 debut 'Pod'.

Frontwoman Kim Deal said very little throughout their set but was all smiles and seemed in good spirits, ending the Mess With Texas barbeque on a high note.
