Pink Floyd shunned by Glastonbury? - Tabloid Hell

Eavis says no to Gilmour's offer to perform this year

Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has apparently snubbed Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour's offer to play at this year's festival.

According to The Sun,Gilmour personally contacted Eavis offering to perform the iconic album 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' at the festival but was told he wouldn't be needed.

A source explained: "Dave has always had a soft spot for Glastonbury. He's got a window in his touring plans and thought he'd contact Michael about performing."

However the source added that Eavis felt a set from Gilmour wouldn't be what the youngsters would want to see and added: "While Michael was grateful for the offer he turned it down. He wants the event to appeal to a younger generation, and feels that Dave wouldn't".

Glastonbury takes place from June 27 to 29.

If this is true (it is in The Sun FFS) then Eavis is clearly off his head. The Glasto bill is crying out for someone of Gilmours class. Glastonbury is being seriously devalued.

Dave Gilmour wouldn't appeal to the 'younger generation' but Shakin Stevens and Leonard Cohen will? Idiot.

How many tickets will be available on the gate then?Even if they're going for the 14-21 age group, the type of festival-going music fan is equally/more likely to want to see Dave Gilmour (or should do if they have any taste at all!). A lot of the people seeing Jay Z at 02 Fireless fest or MK Bowl etc probably aren't going to glasto because there isn't much else they'd see.Why not have headliners including Radiohead/REM and Springsteen/Dave Gilmour and then there's a chance tickets may actually sell out in hours rather than not at all in two months.

"wants the event to appeal to a younger generation" does he?Is that why he signed up Neil Diamond and Shakin Stevens this year?Apart from The Who, Bowie and Johnny Cash I don't know why he keeps bothering to pay over the odds for nearly dead has beens.Still, Amy Winehouse followed by Jay Z on Saturday night will, er, get the party rockin' and appeal to that 'younger generation'. Or not.

Take the story itself with a grain of salt. The Sun has listed "a source," reporting nearly as unconscionable as the NME not only repeating it, but attempting to make an even bigger deal of it than the story warrants. The headline says "Pink Floyd shunned," but the story goes on to say it's David Gilmour. The addition of a photograph of Pink Floyd pre-Gilmour makes the whole thing even more absurd.

This is clearly rubbish - The Sun writer probably doesn't even know anything about Pink Floyd. The most likely story is that Roger Waters offered to play DSOTM at Glasto, cos that's what he's been doing at other festivals. For Gilmour to do it would surely cause a riot and see him sink to stupid levels of indignity!

Is that because he doesn't fancy seeing him rather than thinking what the punters may want to see? If it's true, then i reckon even non p flyd / gilmore fans may think that one would be a mistake, esp in light of line-up. Not fit him in? Not enough stages and time......

Pink floyd are so far ahead their styl will never die never be ousted by educated music loving people and insecure people like eavis should wake up and smell the coffe. You should try listening to people instead of telling people what they should be listening to.
