Britney Spears' ancestors "lived in sin" in Tottenham in London, it has been revealed.

The 'Piece Of Me' singer's great-grandparents were listed at the same London address before and after they married, according to the Daily Mirror, which would "have broken the strict moral codes of the time".

The couple's daughter - Spears' grandmother - married a US sailor before moving to New Orleans.

Lawrence Ward from the London Metropolitan Archives told the newspaper: "There's no way we can prove anything either way. It's open to interpretation."

Britney Spears won three awards at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this week.
