Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder reckons Bez turned down Hollywood actress Julia Roberts, according to one red top.

The maraca-playing dancer was apparently oblivious to who she was and her advances when they met in an LA bar shortly after she made her name in the 1990 romcom Pretty Woman, reports The Sun.

"It was when Julia had just released Pretty Woman and we were in The Viper Room and she took a liking to Bez," Ryder said. "She invited him home but Bez actually got on more with Evil, her bodyguard. Bez was just: 'Evil was just so cool.' He didn't know who Julia Roberts was." Ryder recently released his autobiography 'Twisting My Melon' in which he admitted he had no memory of what happened during the last 16 years of his life.

The Happy Mondays man also revealed that the only way he's been able to write about his life between those years was by looking through old copies of NME and newspapers.
