Take That score a double top on the single and album charts

It's a triumphant night for the returning boy band oldies

Take That are at the top of both the UK single and album charts tonight (December 3), the first such double in their career, as their comeback album 'Beautiful World' sees off all-comers on the album countdown and single 'Patience' remains at the peak for a second week.

With Christmas coming, the real battle ground is on the album chart rather than with singles this week. Take That replace Westlife who slip down to four. The quartet narrowly held off a surge from pop opera-lite stars Il Divo. In the end, Take That won by a margin of just 2,559 more sales than Il Divo.

Take That's main songwriter Gary Barlow said the chart double was "like a fairytale."

Oasis continue to perform well on the album countdown as 'Stop The Clocks' sits at three while The Beatles are at five.

Back on the singles chart, there has been much jockeying for position as songs that entered last week on downloads alone race up the top 20.

Bootyluv's dance track 'Boogie 2Nite' sails up from 19 to three, Nelly Furtado moves from 13 to four with 'All Good Things (Come To An End)', The Fratellis climb hugely from 52 to nine with 'Whistle for the Choir and Muse see 'Knights of Cydonia' leap a massive 82 places from 92 to 10.

A little further back, The Killers miss out on a top 10 finish as 'Bones' rattles from 50 to 15.
