Take That's Gary Barlow has been honoured by the Queen.

The singer, who masterminded The Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert in June, was made an OBE for services to the entertainment industry and charity.

In a statement, Barlow said he was surprised to be awarded the OBE and that it "hadn't seemed real until today". Barlow featured on the Queen's Birthday Honours list just days after the Jubilee single 'Sing', which he penned with Andrew Lloyd Webber, topped the official UK singles charts.

He also organised the Jubilee celebration concert at Buckingham Palace, which featured Paul McCartney, Kylie Minogue and Stevie Wonder. Barlow was recently hailed a "national treasure" by The Prince of Wales at a music industry award ceremony earlier this month.

Prince Charles added: "Over the past 25 years, you have become one of the great stars of the British music industry and you are the very embodiment of that rare species, a national treasure. It seems to me you inspire goodwill wherever you go and your appeal transcends the ages, a very rare feat if I may say so." Actress Kate Winslet was also made a CBE for services to drama at Buckingham Palace.

Barlow is currently fronting the The X Factor alongside Tulisa and Nicole Scherzinger.
