Taylor Swift has sent a message of congratulation to the US women’s gymnastics team after they won the gold medal at the Rio Olympic Games last night (August 10).

The athletes, who had dubbed themselves ‘The Final Five’, took gold with an eight-point win over silver medallists Russia, beating them 184.897 to 176.688. China took bronze, with Great Britain fifth after scoring 174.362 points.

The Final Five are gymnasts Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian and Aly Raisman.



Swift tweeted: “Sending my biggest congratulations to Simone, Aly, Laurie, Gabby and Madison! YOU DID IT GIRLS! #FinalFive.”

Girlband Fifth Harmony also congratulated the gymnasts, tweeting: “Yes! Our girls got gold!”



It’s the second consecutive win for the USA’s female gymnastics team, after winning gold at the London Olympics in 2012 when their team called itself ‘The Fierce Five’.

As of Thursday afternoon, the US led the medals table with 11 golds, one ahead of China. Great Britain are ninth, with three golds.

Meanwhile, Swift’s record label Big Machine have denied rumours that the singer is releasing a new album in October. Big Machine CEO Scott Borchetta responded “NOPE” on Twitter when fan Savvy asked him if the rumours were true.

Swift’s most recent album was ‘1989’, released in October 2014.
