Television guitarist to make band departure

Richard Lloyd leaves to concentrate on 'Radiant Monkey'

Television guitarist Richard Lloyd has announced he is to leave the seminal art-punk quartet following their final performance at New York's Central Park on June 16.

Lloyd has attributed the decision to his desire to concentrate on latest solo album 'Radiant Monkey', which he has compared to Patti Smith's seminal 'Horses'.

Speaking about the split, Lloyd told Spin: "I love all four of the guys… But I can't ride two horses. I took a vow in '73 to be invisible so that Tom (Verlaine) could be the leader so there'd be no challenge in public, and I've held to that. But the new record I have is too good to give a half-assed effort."
