Tenacious D reveal plans for comedy-rock festival

Comedy duo hope to book Flight Of The Conchords, Spinal Tap, Tim Minchin for Festival Supreme

Tenacious D have revealed plans to create their own comedy-rock festival.

The duo, who consist of Hollywood actor Jack Black and comedian Kyle Gass, have said the one-day event, called Festival Supreme, will take place on October 19, but they have yet to nail down a venue or acts.

However, the duo said they hoped to convince Flight Of The Conchords, Spinal Tap, Tim Minchin, Eric Idle, Lonely Island and Zach Galifianakis to play the “fuckin’ Super Bowl of comedy-rock”.

Asked by Rolling Stone if they had ever considered a Blur/Oasis rivalry with Flight Of The Conchords, Black let slip the festival plans. He said: “We actually have been talking about joining forces, because we’ve always wanted to do a double bill. We’re working on a festival, called Festival Supreme.”

He added: “It’ll be a meeting of the minds. It’s gonna be like Mount Rockmore, where you’ve got your Flight of the Conchords, your Lonely Island, your Tenacious D, your Zach Galifianakis, your Spinal Tap, your Eric Idle.”

No venue has been set for the Autumn bash, but Jack Black said they are in talks to host the festival on Santa Monica Pier. “October 19, circle that in your calendar”, he said. “Now there’s no guarantee who’s gonna be on the bill – it might just be Tenacious D and Weird Al (Yankovic). But that’s a long ways off.”

Tenacious D released their third studio album, ‘Rize Of The Fenix’, in 2012. The album was the follow-up to 2006’s ‘The Pick Of Destiny’ and the band’s 2001 self-titled debut.
