Fiery Furnaces continue Radiohead insults and lay into Beck

Matthew Friedberger says his comments about 'Harry Patch' were not misquoted

The Fiery Furnaces' singer Matthew Friedberger has laid into Radiohead for the second time this week.

A new blog posted on Myspace.com/thefieryfurnaces stipulates that Friedberger wasn't misquoted during a recent interview where he slagged off Radiohead's song 'Harry Patch (In Memory Of)', accusing the band of pandering to their audience and being "bogus".

Initially it was believed that Friedberger had misinterpreted the song as being about US composer Harry Partch, rather than the English war hero who it was written in tribute to.

However, the MySpace blog confirmed that there was in fact no case of mistaken identity and that Friedberger was "fooling around".

"Like most creative musicians, Matt Friedberger is not a fan of Radiohead and their various chartbusters," the blog begins.

"Of course, Matt never 'misread' any song title, as has been reported. Though he is not very proficient at it, he can actually read. Matt naturally thought it would be interesting to pretend that they wrote a song about the celebrated American composer with a similar sounding name."

The blog goes on to state that Friedberger hasn't actually listened to the song in question.

"Matt has not heard the Radiohead song about Harry Patch, as opposed to his imaginary one about Harry Partch, but if he did, he is sure he wouldn't like it. No doubt Radiohead and their fans can ignore his opinion of this matter and the band can continue with their triumphant artistic interventions."

Elsewhere, a similar jokey attack on Beck is made by Friedberger, referencing the 'Odelay' singer's support for Scientology.

"Matt would have much preferred to insult Beck but he is too afraid of Scientologists," read the statement.
