Matt Healy of The 1975 says he wants his band to be as big as possible, stating that "the world needs" their forthcoming second album.

The 1975 release 'I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It' on February 26. It features singles 'Love Me' and 'The Sound'.

Speaking to NME, Healy says that a lack of ambition is alien to him and hits out at bands he sees as lacking the gumption to reach mainstream audiences. "If you don't want your art to reach people, that negates you as an artist," he says.

"I hate that indie band bullshit of acting like you don't care so you don't get judged about being shit. That's what indie is now. That fey sense of 'we don't care'. Well, don't do it then. Fuck off and do something else."

Healy admits that the ambitious nature of the band's new album could prove a stumbling block but that he couldn't have made the album any other way. "I'm challenging people to sit through an hour and 15 minutes and 17 songs that all sound completely different from each other," he admits. "It's quite an emotional investment. It's art. It's what I want to do. The world needs this album."
