The Beatles’s ’Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’
is set to be discussed by academics.

On June 19, experts will gather at the University Of Leeds to analyse the album at an event called ’A Day In The Life - Sgt Pepper at 40’.

The event will feature a rare signed print of the original artwork by artist Sir Peter Blake. Blake will also exhibit art by Paul Weller, Oasis and The Who.

The 'Sgt. Pepper' sleeve will be deconstructed by Deena Weinstein of the DePaul University Of Chicago.

The keynote speech by Sheila Whiteley of Salford University will question whether Pepper’s “tangerine trees and marmalade skies” set the cultural agenda for the summer of love or was mere optimistic escapism.

Event organiser Simon Warner said: “Put simply, it’s the most important album by the most important group. It was a ground breaking moment for popular music…The whole album has so many colours and nuances - and that amazing multi-coloured sleeve perfectly echoes what’s going on inside.”

The seminal LP was released 40 years ago today (June 1).
