'Lost' Beatles interview to be heard for first time in 40 years

Fab Four chat will be broadcast today (July 1)

A TV interview The Beatles gave to Scottish TV in 1964 has been found – and will be broadcast today on British radio.

The nine-and-a-half-minute interview with John Lennon and Paul McCartney was discovered by Richard Jeffs in a south London garage, where it had been languishing for 30 years.

In the interview, which will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 today (July 1) at 1:30pm (BST), Lennon explains how he met McCartney at a village fete near Liverpool.

The duo also talk about their songwriting process. "We write them [songs] on an old piano, anything that's lying around," Lennon says. "Normally we just sit down and bash it out," adds McCartney.

Jeffs, speaking about finding the interview footage, said that he felt like "the man with the million-pound note".

Hear the interview today at 1:30pm on bbc.co.uk/radio4.
