Bass player Magnus Sveningsson tells NME.COM fans can expect a "very organic" return from the Swedish popsters...

THE CARDIGANS plan to release a new single next summer followed by an album in the autumn, NME.COM can reveal.

Songwriter Peter Svensson has already written music for about 15 songs but the band have decided not to record with producer Tore Johansson this time, and are currently on the lookout for possible collaborators.

Meanwhile, bass player and songwriter Magnus Sveningsson will release a solo album titled 'I Sing Because Of You' under the moniker Righteous Boy in January in his home country.

The first single taken from the album, 'Loved Among Friends', is slated for a release in Sweden in December. The album is expected to be released across Europe, including the UK, on Polydor, but nothing has been finalised yet.

Speaking to NME.COM, Sveningsson described his solo material as influenced by names such as Leonard Cohen, Beck and Spiritualized.

"It's a real hit with the girls - women go crazy when they hear it, it's my deep voice that they really gets them going," he joked.

The songs are very organic, most of them have not been programmed and they can serve as an indicator of what we can expect next from The Cardigans, according to Sveningsson.

"It's a reaction against our last album (1998's 'Gran Turismo') which had quite a cold sound", he explained. Sveningsson also revealed that the band has talked about including material from both Righteous Boy and Nina Persson's solo project A Camp when the Cardigans go on tour next.
