Tim Burgess: 'The Charlatans will release a new album next year' The Charlatans Tickets

The 'baggy' legends have begun writing their twelfth record

Tim Burgess has revealed The Charlatans have begun writing songs for their twelfth studio album, and plan to have it recorded and released in 2013.

The new record will be the band's first studio album since 2010's 'Who We Touch'; the baggy legends released an EP earlier this year titled 'Warm Sounds', featuring stripped-down acoustic versions of classic hits such as 'North Country Boy' and 'The Only One I Know'.

Speaking in an interview with the Independent, Burgess revealed, although he is preparing the release of his second solo album 'Oh No I Love You' on September 24, he was writing songs for a new The Charlatans album alongside guitarist Mark Collins.

He said: "We're doing an album next year, or that's the plan. Me and Mark Collins have already got together to write some songs, and I reckon one sounds pretty good. Being part of a band is completely different. It's working with five people and it's not all about me. That's got to be a good thing, right?"

The Charlatans front man, who recently published his autobiography Telling Stories, will be following up the release of his solo album, which features members of Lambchop, Clem Snide, and My Morning Jacket, with a UK tour.

The tour will start in Aberdeen on October 18 before finishing in Belfast on 27 and will feature Burgess with his five-piece band, including The Charlatans guitarist Mark Collins.
