LONDON RECALLING

Don Letts' film Westway To The World, a documentary charting the rise and fall of The Clash, is on BBC2 this Saturday at 9.30pm.

Premiered last week at the seedy though picturesque Coronet cinema in Notting Hill and attended by Joe Strummer, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon (though not Topper Headon) the film is a funny and sometimes poignant history of the greatest British rock and roll band of the 70s and 80s as told by all the members and ex members as well as pundits like ex NME writer Tony Parsons and former Clash road manager Johnny Green.

Strummer told NME at the party after the screening that the motivation behind making it was "mostly financial", though despite the release of a new Clash live album 'From Here To Eternity' next week, was adamant that a Clash reunion is definitely not an option.

"I hate that, the idea of bringing back the past. I really bloody hate it," he said. At which point, 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go' is played over the PA leaving Strummer shouting "God, I'm going to KILL the DJ!"
