Mick Jones' band play unique show

Mick Jones and Tony James’ band Carbon/Silicon staged a unique gig last night in their own studio last night (April 19).

Inviting crowd of just 30 down to the band’s base, hidden away on a London industrial estate, the former Clash and Generation X men played a blistering six song set.

“It’s not really a gig - it’s an informal gathering,” Jones told the audience who crammed into the tiny, velvet lined room filled with posters of The Clash and the Sex Pistols.

With Big Audio Dynamite bassist Leo Williams and former Reef drummer Dominic Greensmith now recruited into the band, Carbon/Silicon tore through a sharp set as Jones joked: “We’re a new band, even though we’ve been around for a long time.”

With their music recalling the sharpness of early The Who as well as reflecting the rhythmic sensibilities of the band members’ previous groups, the band drew large cheers despite the small crowd, entertaining them between songs with impromptu old show tunes.

Although Jones and James have been working on the band for the last four years, releasing material through the internet, they are now planning a conventional release.

As previously reported, an EP is due out in May, while a full album will follow later.
