Former Clash guitarist Mick Jones performed his band’s classic track ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go’ on Friday (July 6) night in Wormwood Scrubs prison in west London.

Along with Billy Bragg, the guitarist was visiting the jail to hand over five guitars to in-mates as part of Bragg’s Jail Guitar Doors campaign - which he launched at this year's Shockwaves NME Awards - to encourage prisoners to take up music.

“Shall we see if this guitar works,” said Jones, before performing the song to inmates, reported The Guardian.

“Music is a way to get away from things, a way of expressing yourself,” he said after the performance. “And if you’ll excuse the pun, it’s a great way to escape.”

Bragg and Jones’ initiative aims to reduce re-offending among prisoners by offering them an outlet through music.

“It’s not going to work for everybody,” said Bragg. “But there are people who find redemption through music.”
