Joe Strummer charity offers bands chance to play Glastonbury

Stummerville compeition will put new act on this year

Bands could be in the chance of playing a slot at 2008’s Glastonbury festival if they win a competition being stage by a charity honouring The Clash's late frontman Joe Stummer.

The AKG Unsigned Heroes contest, now in its second year, is teaming up with the Strummerville charity, and letting the winning act play the Strummerville Stage at this year’s festival.

The band will also get one of their tracks remixed by Aidan Lavelle of UNKLE fame.

Any unsigned groups over the age of 18 and with three members or more can enter through the Unsigned Heroes website by uploading mp3s or sending in CDs now.

The best three bands that enter each month will be picked to play live at the Comedy Café in Shoreditch, London, at monthly face-offs in February, March, April and May.

Winning bands from these four rounds, plus four runners up, will be put in a public web based vote in June and the winning group will go straight on to play Glastonbury at the end of that month.
