Cosmic scousers say they nearly called it a day

The Coral, who are set to support Arctic Monkeys at their huge Lancashire County Cricket Ground shows this weekend (July 28 and 29), have revealed how they nearly split up in 2005.

Talking to The Guardian, singer James Skelly spoke of the band’s previous unhappiness.

“I think everyone discussed it [splitting the band up] separately,” he said. “I thought to myself, 'We could walk away here with a good thing'.”

“It’s crushing when you think about it,” Skelly added. “But it’s reality, isn’t it. I think you need it to happen to remind you of how much you love it [being in the band].”

At the time guitarist Bill Ryder-Jones had temporarily left the band, but later rejoined the line-up, as the band chose to continue.

The group release their new album 'Roots & Echoes' on August 6.
