The Coral, Courteeners and Editors fly British indie flag at V Festival

The Coral, The Courteeners and Editors flew the flag for British indie at V Festival in Chelmsford this afternoon (August 21), playing sets at the event.

The three bands played afternoon shows on the first day of this year's event at Hylands Park.

The Coral opened with 'Goodbye' – taken from their 2002 self-titled debut album – and went on showcase songs from their new album 'Butterfly House', including the single '1000 Years', 'Roving Jewell', and set closer 'North Parade'. The group also performed a number of their classic singles, including 'Dreaming Of You' and 'Pass It On'.

The Courteeners were up next on the stage, with frontman Liam Fray leading the band through songs mainly taken from second album 'Falcon'.

The Manchester band also found time to play a few songs from their 2008 debut 'St Jude', however, with Fray joking with the crowd as he asked, "Who's 19?", teeing up 'Not Nineteen Forever'. "Yeah, right!" he laughed as many fans screamed an affirmative answer.

Up next wereEditors. Flitting between piano, guitar and just a microphone, frontman Tom Smith led the band through a set that included 'Blood', 'Bullets' and 'Eat Raw Meat = Blood Drool', taken from their latest album 'In This Light And On This Evening'.
