Manchester band honour late daredevil at Club NME show

The Courteeners paid tribute to legendary motorcycle stuntman Evel Knievel during their biggest London show to date in the early hours of this morning (December 1).

The Manchester four-piece paid their respects just hours after the daredevil, who was famous for his death defying stunts in the 1960s and 70s, passed away at the age of 69.

As the band launched into 'Not Nineteen Forever', singer Liam Fray said: "This next song's for Evel Knievel."

The Club NME show at Koko was only the band's second appearance in the capital but much of the crowd were already familiar with their songs as they bellowed out the words to the likes of 'Cavorting', 'Kimberley', 'No You Didn't No' and recent hit single 'Acrylic'.

Rounding off their set with forthcoming single 'What Took You So Long', Fray added: "Thanks for being so receptive to us. London is like our second home. Its been emotional. We'll see you soon."

The Courteeners are currently in the middle of a UK tour and they are due to kick off another 21 date jaunt in January.
