The Courteeners have scored a top five entry in the album charts with their debut album 'St Jude'.

Manchester's hottest new band, and this week's NME cover stars, scored the Number Four placing on the album chart today (April 13).

An early mid-week position had seen the band's Stephen Street-produced debut at Number One.

The highest new entry was The Rolling Stones' soundtrack to Martin Scorsese's biopic 'Shine A Light' at Number Two.

However, nobody could quite defeat Duffy, whose debut 'Rockferry' moves back to Number One following last week's victory for REM's 'Accelerate', which drops to two.

Meanwhile, UK soul sensation Estelle retains the Number One spot in the singles chart with comeback smash 'American Boy', just ahead of Sam Sparro with 'Black and Gold'.

The top ten UK singles are:

1. Estelle ft. Kanye West – 'American Boy'
2. Sam Sparro – 'Black and Gold'
3. Flo Rida ft. T-Pain - 'Low'
4. Madonna ft. Justin Timberlake – '4 Minutes'
5. Mariah Carey – 'Touch My Body'
6. Duffy – 'Mercy'
7. The Kooks – 'Always Where I Need To Be'
8. Leona Lewis – 'Better In Time'/'Footprints In The Sand'
9. September – 'Cry For You'
10. Chris Brown - 'With You'
