Courteeners recording Elbow-inspired album – exclusive The Courteeners Tickets
Liam Fray reveals details of 'St Jude' follow-up

The Courteeners have entered Brussels' ICP studios with producer Ed Buller (White Lies, Pulp) to record their second album.
Frontman Liam Fray told NME.COM that the Manchester band recently embarked on a seven-week recording session in Belgium to lay down the follow-up to their 2008 debut LP 'St Jude'.
The singer/guitarist said that the album was partly-inspired by fellow northern band Elbow, and would feature strings and piano.
Fray added that the band had "26 or 27" songs in contention for the final tracklisting, including 'It'll Take More Than A Weekend Away To Fix This Mess', 'Sycophant', 'Take Over The World', 'Sunflower' and 'The Good Times Are Calling'.
"'It'll Take More…' sounds like a [Elbow frontman] Guy Garvey song, if I'm allowed to be so egotistical," Fray told NME.COM. He added that "'Sunflower' really sounds like The Coral, one of the more popular ones, like 'Jacqueline'."
The album, as-yet untitled, is expected to be released in early 2010. Click on the video on the right to watch an interview with Fray at the recent T In The Park festival.
