The Courteeners have announced that they will be playing a free gig in the centre of Manchester on Saturday (June 23) as part of a concert welcoming the Olympic Torch to the city.

The Manchester band, who are currently working on the follow-up to their 2010 second album 'Falcon', are set to perform in the city's Albert Square at 7pm (GMT) and will play a 30-minute set along with Tribes, who will also feature as part of the show organised by Manchester City Council and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Athletes and street performers will also take part in the show.

The band's frontman Liam Fray confirmed the gig, tweeting from Twitter.com/What_Liam_Said: "We're playing a free gig in Albert Square, Manchester at 7pm this Saturday. Don't be late, set length is 30 minutes. See you there."

The Courteeners most recently released a live DVD, which is titled 'Live at Manchester MEN Arena'. The DVD was filmed during the band's sold out gig at Manchester's Evening News Arena last December. It contains a total of 19 tracks.

The Courteeners are also booked to play this summer's Reading And Leeds Festival and are also playing at this year's T In The Park, which is taking place July 6-8 in Balado Park, Kinross.
