The Courteneers announce two huge outdoor homecoming shows - ticket details The Courteeners Tickets
Frontman Liam Fray tells NME their Castlefield Bowl double header will be on 'another level'
The Manchester band have lined up two dates at Castlefield Bowl on July 5 and 6 with support coming from Miles Kane, The Heartbreaks and newcomers The Strypes on the opening night while James Skelly & The Intenders and Findlay will perform at the second gig. Speaking about their return to the city, where they played their biggest headline show to date at Manchester Arena in 2010, frontman Liam Fray told NME:
We wanted to play somewhere special, somewhere different [this time]. I think it will be on another level [to Manchester Arena]. We're a different animal to that of four years ago. We've a much larger back catalogue to pull from, and we're now aware that you shouldn't open with a song that no-one has ever heard before.
On the support bands he added: "We chose all the acts personally. It's got a kind of festival feel to it, I suppose. I haven't seen The Strypes live yet, but I've heard very good things and I've watched them on YouTube – I thought they were great. People will love them."
Before that the band will release their new single 'Van Der Graaff' on May 6. "'Van Der Graaff' is about choices, temptation. Well, that and baseball," Fray explained. "It could be about anything though, to be honest. Something that you want, but you know you really shouldn’t. The angel and the devil on either shoulder scenario."
