The Manchester band recently lost out on scoring a Number One album, as 'Les Misérables – The Motion Picture Cast Recording' reclaimed the Official UK Album Chart top spot, denying The Courteeners their first UK chart topper.

The band had been in the lead in the midweek chart, but sales of their third album 'Anna' dropped off and they finished five spots down at Number Six.

Speaking exclusively to NME, before the final chart position was revealed, frontman Liam Fray admitted: "I don't think we're going to be Number One. In fact I know we're not going to be Number One because we've not paid for television adverts…".

He added: "We were Number One at midweek and that was by a few thousand but I've seen the figures in the last few days. I know how it goes. I've been in this position before. I've been Number One before until Saturday. 'Les Mis' has been doing 40,000 a week for the last few weeks."

'Anna' is The Courteeners' third album and follows on from 2010's 'Falcon' and their 2008 debut album 'St Jude'.
