The Cribs 'pissed off' at video censorship

The band not happy at the restrictions placed on 'Men's Needs' promo

The Cribs have admitted they were “pissed off” to have their recent video censored for MTV.

The promo for the single ‘Men’s Needs’ includes footage of drummer Ross Jarman’s arm being sliced off and bassist Ryan Jarman being beheaded by a naked girl.

TV watchdog Ofcom stepped in, and the video was considered “too shocking” for the airwaves. It is now only show after a 9pm watershed by MTV2.

“It really pissed me off,” declared Ryan. “Someone made a complaint about it and now Ofcom made a complaint to MTV. They came back and said it wasn’t suitable for daytime viewing.”

Despite the bloody pulps and chaotic scenes of stagedivers and crowd-surfers that are the band’s gigs, the relatively tame lo-fi video is surprisingly the first time The Cribs has been banned.

“We’ve never had any problems with censorship really,” explained Ryan. “I don’t know if it’s like one super conservative person or a malicious industry smear campaign. I just don’t get it really. It’s just one person complaint and yet its been watched like 100,000 times on YouTube. You should look to the majority vote really.”
