The Jarmans: 'Bands don't have opinions these days'
The Cribs have defended their stance against corporate indie in the latest issue of NME.
Speaking about their statement, which suggested corporate indie was a bigger problem than global warming, they denied they were being deliberately controversial.
Ryan Jarman told NME: “I didn’t think anything I was saying was remotely sensationalist. People have just got used to bands not voicing any opinions these days.
“You’re not suppose to rock the boat. We didn’t start for the same reasons as a lot of other bands. When we put out our first record indie bands weren’t having hits. It wasn’t just about getting famous or wanting to be a pop star. It was purely about artistic reasons. That sounds wanky but it’s true.”
Asked what it would be like if one of their fans didn’t know the difference between them and The Kooks Ross Jarman said: “If you’ve got two cars, then you look under the bonnet”.
The band vowed to continue their crusade against bland bands, by crashing the party with their appearence at V Festival this weekend (August 18-19).
NME.COM will be bring you full coverage live from both sites, so you can find out how The Cribs get on here first.
