Johnny Marr: 'The Cribs album is my best for 25 years' The Cribs Tickets

Former Smiths guitarist talks up 'Ignore The Ignorant'

The Cribs' guitarist Johnny Marr has claimed the band's forthcoming new album is the best record he's worked on for 25 years.

Speaking about 'Ignore The Ignorant' on Sky Sports' 'Soccer AM' programme, the former Smiths man said it was his best work for a quarter of a century.

"You always think something's the best thing you've done. You're not always right, but in this case I'm right. It's good," he said. "I've not done very much for 25 years!"

The Smiths' self-titled debut album was released in 1984, and was followed by 'Meat Is Murder', 'The Queen Is Dead' and 1987's 'Strangeways Here We Come'.

Marr also revealed a desire to learn to play the piano during his appearance on the football show, stating the instrument would be "good for a knees-up".

'Ignore The Ignorant' is released on Monday (September 7).

That's great and all and I'm excited for the new album but after hearing the cribs previous records, and the brilliant guitar work Johnny did with the Smiths, I've got a feeling like this is gonna be a let down, just another boring album full of power chords. Please Mr. Marr, prove me wrong

no, sadly he hasn't done much for 25 years. but "twisted tenderness" by electronic in 1999 is more than worthy.
