The Cribs are to be honoured with a pavement plaque in their hometown of Wakefield.

The Jarman brothers, who grew up in the West Yorkshire city, will be named as Wakefield Stars on July 1. A plaque will be unveiled on one of pavements in the city centre in the manner of Hollywood's famous parade of stars.

The band are fiercely proud of their hometown and have referenced it a number of times in their lyrics, most obviously in their 2005 track 'Wrong Way To Be'.

Others set to be honoured as Wakefield Stars are artists Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, playwright Jon Godber and rugby league player David Topliss.

The Cribs are currently writing new material for the follow up to their 2008 album 'Ignore The Ignorant'. They announced earlier this year that former The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr had left the band, leaving them once again as a trio.
