The Cribs will pick up this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust Outstanding Contribution To Music award at The NME Awards 2013 with fans able to vote for which song they would like to see the band perform live on the night.

The band will pick up the prestigious award on the night and are also confirmed to play live at the ceremony, which takes place at its new home, Troxy, in east London on Wednesday February 27.

From their inception 10 years ago, The Cribs - twins Gary and Ryan, and drummer and little brother Ross – have released five incredible albums, which each expanded their vision yet remained true to the unflinching DIY attitude that makes them so unique in British rock. This year’s NME Awards Godlike Genius recipient, Johnny Marr, became so enamoured with them that he actually became a member of the band from 2008 to 2011.

The Cribs said: "It's a tremendous honour, and something that you never really dream of when first starting out as three maladjusted weirdos from the middle of nowhere, it's almost like a purple heart in some ways - recognition for your time in the trenches and varying degrees of suffering, not sure there were too many acts of bravery, but if anything, we hope that people remember the fact that we always tried to negotiate this strange, and oftentimes sleazy industry with an ethic rooted in DIY - trying to forge your own path rather than riding the gravy train...so that makes this all the sweeter. Thanks a lot."

NME users will decide which song The Cribs perform at the NME Awards. The brothers have drawn up a 10-song shortlist and fans can head to NME.COM to cast their vote.

Mike Williams, editor of NME, said: "The Cribs arrived on the scene in 2003 with a DIY, never-say-die attitude and they’ve not let up since, literally bleeding for the cause at some of the most chaotic and thrilling gigs of the past decade, and at the same time producing five amazing albums that encapsulate punk spirit and outsider indie like no-one else. Needless to say we’re incredibly proud to salute their achievements by honouring them with this award. They truly are outstanding as well as inspiring, and we’re looking forward to staying with them every step of the way for another 10 years."

The Cribs join an illustrious list of previous winners of the Outstanding Achievement award including Pulp, PJ Harvey and The Specials.

The band are also playing an NME Award Show on Friday (February 22) at Londons' Shepherd's Bush Empire. Tickets are available from www.NME.com/tickets.

Meanwhile, The Cribs are also set to give away a free 12-track album with next week's NME. The trio have collected together a series of demos for the CD, which they've titled 'Payola: The Demos'. It will come free with the issue of NME out on February 20 and will work as a companion disc to their new compilation record, 'Payola', which comes out on February 25.

As well as demo versions of well-loved songs including 'Men's Needs', 'Cheat On Me' and 'Another Number', the album will open with the first three demos they ever recorded: 'Happy In Town', 'Diclomax Retard' and 'Melmac'. These three songs have never been released in any format before. As well as featuring the free CD on the front, the issue of NME out on February 20 will feature an interview with the band about their decade-long career so far, plus content including new music scene reports from each band member, and joint interviews between them and some of their musical heroes. There will also be exclusive new Cribs video interviews going online on NME.COM when the issue's out, so earmark the day in your diary for the ultimate Cribs-fest.

The tracklisting of 'Payola: The Demos' is:

'Happy In Town'
'Diclomax Retard'
'Melmac'
'Another Number'
'Martell'
'Men's Needs'
'I'm A Realist'
'Our Bovine Public'
'We Were Aborted'
'Cheat On Me'
'Come On, Be A No-One'
'Glitters Like Gold'
