Johnny Marr joins The Cribs for Leeds Cribsmas reunion
The gig was the second of two special Cribsmas shows for the Wakefield trio
Marr, who joined the band for fourth album 'Ignore The Ignorant', hasn't performed with the trio since 2010, but came out to play two tracks – 'We Were Aborted' and 'We Share The Same Skies' – at the show. Appearing near the end of the set, Marr was introduced by guitarist Ryan Jarman, who teased that they were bringing out someone special, before declaring that the guest was "like their older brother" and "the fourth Crib... Yeah, it's Johnny".
The rest of the slot, meanwhile, comprised of a hugely well-received greatest hits set featuring celebratory glitter cannons and fake snow.
Entering to 'Come On, Be A No-One', from last years 'In The Belly Of the Brazen Bull', the band then tore through live favourite 'I'm A Realist' before exploding the first of two gold confetti cannons for 'Glitters Like Gold' to cheers from the sold-out crowd, who were on buoyant form throughout.
'Jaded Youth', 'Our Bovine Public' and 'Girls Like Mystery' followed before Ryan declared that they would try and play a song they've only played once before, but it might go wrong. The trio then launched into an acoustic 'Shoot The Poets', with the crowd singing the guitar solo, before continuing with a further crowd-pleasing selection including 'Another Number', 'Be Safe' and 'Mirror Kissers'.
Following Marr's brief return, The Cribs then played the whole of '...Brazen Bull's four track final medley, with fake snow falling throughout the songs, before ending with a huge crowd singalong of 'Men's Needs' and customary set-closer 'City Of Bugs' - replete with a second glitter shot.
Earlier in the evening, The Cribs were supported by Swim Deep and The Wytches, who both played very well-received sets to the packed Academy crowd.
Yesterday (December 18), meanwhile, The Cribs played the first of their two Cribsmas 2 shows - a follow on from 2007's inaugural Cribsmas gigs at the Brudenell Social Club, playing a special 'old skool' set comprised of songs only from 2005 and before. The band were supported by old tourmates and Leeds favourites Black Wire, who had reunited especially for two nights to play at the event.
The Cribs played:
'Come On, Be A No-one'
'I'm A Realist'
'Cheat On Me'
'Glitters Like Gold'
'Our Bovine Public'

'Shoot The Poets'
