The Cribs have revealed that they are working on two brand new studio albums

The band appear inside this week's NME, which is on newsstands or available digitally now. They feature as part of a rundown of 100 albums to look forward to in 2014 containing exclusive studio reports and photos.

Speaking to NME about the two projects he and his brothers are working on, Gary Jarman says: "I feel like there's two sides to the band – a punk rock side and a poppy side – and we've always tried to balance them. The idea this time is to let them exist separately as different records."

The punk half of the double release was born during sessions with Steve Albini. The trio plan to return to Albini's studio later this year and finish the album, which currently has working song titles including 'Give Good Time', 'Agoraphobia' and 'What Have You Done For Me?'.

The pop album, meanwhile, was written during festival season last year and will be recorded in Portland later this month. "The songs don't have names yet, but there are two in particular I'm really into," the bassist says. "I really think one of them is a pop smash. And there's one that's all fuzz bass and geek-rock style synth lines."

The Cribs released their last studio album, 'In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull', in 2012. Last year saw the band release singles collection 'Payola'.
