The Cribs have revealed that Ric Ocasek of 1980s new wave pop band The Cars will produce their new album.

Speaking to NME, Ryan Jarman discussed Ocasek, who also produced Weezer. "He doesn't do records like a gun for hire; he chooses a band. We've been trying to get him since the third record, now he thinks we're definitely good enough."

Speaking further about the band's next LP, Gary Jarman added: "We've got enough songs for it, we're just finalising things: we'll record in October. It's influenced by all the stuff we've been listening to – The Replacements and 80s pop basically."

On future singles, he went on to say that the first will be a 'fuzzy pop song'. He explained: "The one we've earmarked for the first single is the first song we wrote for the album, which never happens. It's a big, fuzzy pop song. We call it 'the geek rock one'."
