The Dandy Warhols to release their own records

Band leave the world of major labels behind

The Dandy Warhols have left their major label, Capitol, and plan to release their next album on their own label, Beat The World.

The move has come after the band’s last album, 2005’s ‘Odditorium Or The Warlords Of Mars’, sold poorly compared to its predecessors.

Speaking to Billboard guitarist Peter Holmstrom said: "We had interest [from major labels], but I didn't seek out any major label deals this time around."

The band’s manager Lee Cohen added: "We were all totally done dealing with major label incompetence. The last record was literally just dumped in bins at stores and they walked away from it."

The Dandy Warhols' as-yet-untitled new album is expected to be released later this year.

The new album is called "Earth To The Dandy Warhols" and it comes out May 5.

Also, in respect to the last album, Capitol did promote it to a certain extent (i.e. the singles "Smoke It" and "All the Money"), but overall the songs were amalgamations of what they did on previous albums, which is great for fans (I love the record) but not conducive to promoting the record in a positive light.

offkeyericdee is right... their last album was one of their most "jam" oriented...so it was proabably not so easy to promote it...and the choice of their 1st single was not very smart , is it the band or the label who choosed it ?... it was a funny track but surely not something that will "get high" and trouble the chart plastic pop egemony.

agree with both of you.last album would have sold better if they chose "down like disco" or "holding me up". they seem to always pick the wrong singles off the album. i'm not sure if they are doing it to preseve artistic cred or whatever, but if they actually concerned about selling records and are going to blame the label like they do here, they have to look in the mirror first. I wouldn't like them either based on "smoke it", "all the money", "we used to be friends", "not if you were the last junkie on earth", "bohemian like you", etc. they either do it themselves or let someone do it for them, but their singles are horrible choices. combine that with the fact that that type of rock and roll does not sell millions anyway and you are going to struggle. thank god i've been with them since TV theme song (probably the best single they've released so far) and know that their albums are deeper than their singles.courtney taylor taylor taylor should just write whatever album he is going to write and if he needs the money, write a few extra pop songs for TV commercials and ringtones.
