A band member is still too unwell to tour

The Decemberists have cancelled the remaining dates on ‘The Long And Short Of It’ tour.

The band had scheduled two nights in every city on the tour, alternating between sets filled with their longer, epic tunes and sets comprised of their short tracks.

In a message posted on the band’s website today (November 1), they say:

“One of our band members has been ill for a while but we thought all would be well in time for these tour dates. After a couple of shows, though, it has become clear that the illness is much worse than we had initially realized.

"We need to return home so our friend can mend. It saddens us to disappoint our fans. We hope everybody understands it is only because of an extreme situation that we had to cancel a tour we've all been excited about doing since the idea was originally hatched.”

The message also said there are no plans to reschedule the tour at the moment. The band cancelled their European tour last month for the same reason.

The cancelled dates are:

New York Terminal 5 (November 1, 2)
Boston Orpheum (3, 4)
Winston-Salem Millennium Center (6, 7)
Washington 9:30 Club (9, 10)
Washington 9:30 Club (11, 12)
Columbus Lifestyle Communities Pavilion (15, 16)
Milwaukee Riverside Theater (18, 19)
San Francisco Fillmore (23, 24)
San Francisco Fillmore (25, 26)
Los Angeles Wiltern (29, 30)
San Diego Spreckels Theatre (December 1, 2)
Portland Crystal Ballroom (5-7)
Seattle Moore Theatre (8, 9)
