The Doors and Grateful Dead to get honorary Grammys

Rock legends lead the way in secondary ceremony

Rock legends The Doors and The Grateful Dead are among artists set to receive lifetime achievement Grammy Awards next year.

The special ceremony is part of the run-up to the main Grammy ceremony on February 11.

According to the Reuters news agency, other artists picking up honours are folk legend Joan Baez, soul musicians Booker T and the MGs and saxophone player Ornette Coleman.

The ceremony traditionally rewards artists who were never awarded Grammys at the height of their careers.

As such, deceased artists such as opera singer Maria Callas and country icon Bob Willis will also be honoured.

singer Jim Morrison died in 1971, and mainman Jerry Garcia passed away in 1995.
