The Enemy play secret gig at train station
Coventry band overcome illness for surprise rail show
Singer Tom Clarke took to the stage at Loughborough Central Station to play a special acoustic set for a hundred competition winners, after a full gig by the Coventry three-piece was scuppered after bassist Andy Hopkins was taken ill with tonsillitis.
“We’re really sorry Andy can’t be here, but he’s laid up in bed,” Clarke told the crowd, before tearing through a set which included ‘We’ll Live And Die In These Towns’, ‘Away From Here’ and ‘You’re Not Alone’.
After the gig, Clarke assured NME.COM that Hopkins would be fit and ready to join the band for the final dates of the 02 presents NME Rock N Roll Riot Tour 2007 this weekend in Birmingham (October 20, 21).
“It’s [tonsillitis] been going round all tour, I think I might even be coming down with it,” he explained. “But fingers crossed we both should be well enough to play the two final dates. We don’t want to let anybody down.”
