The Enemy 'grow a pair' for new album The Enemy Tickets

Tom Clarke is 'absolutely buzzing' about what 2009 has in store for the band

The Enemy’s frontman Tom Clarke has spoken of the "huge" sound the band have captured on their forthcoming second album.

The band are currently in Wales recording the follow up to their 2007 debut 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns', and Clarke told the Daily Star that he's so pleased with the way sessions have gone that he's not feeling any pressure whatsoever.

"We know we are making something good so there's no need for second album nerves," he said.

"Just imagine the first record has grown a set of bollocks and has got some stubble. It's more worldly and the tunes have more depth. We wanted it to sound huge."

Clarke also admitted he was "absolutely buzzing" at the prospect of The Enemy supporting Oasis on their UK stadium tour next summer.

"Noel Gallagher is my hero of the year for asking us to support him," Clarke said.

"Everyone expects us to be nervous but the bigger the event, the bigger the thrill. Nerves don't come into it. You get a massive shot of adrenaline – that's the pay-off.

"We're going to go on, play our gig, get our rush of adrenaline and then go watch Oasis and Kasabian – what a shit job!"

Excellent comic timing Lewis1! Their second attempt; More likely to be described as 'Balls' than the debut. It's not looking good for them.

I forgot that if you read NME you aren't allowed to like bands that get popular. Late of the Pier, what a load of shite. If you don't like The Enemy, why read the article?Just to put your 'clever' little comments slagging them off because they got big and played a venue bigger than there bathroom.

You can't really criticise The Enemy when they've sold out most of their academy tour dates and have been act to support one of the biggest bands in the world? They must be doing something right, Lewis1 you can be quiet.

Can't wait for the second album - the tracks I've heard so far sound promising.

The Enemy are a proper band who write about proper things. Weller and Oasis like them.Enough Said. Late Of The Pier are shit..like by dirty students who are brainwashed by NME! Bit like Crystal Castles and all that other shit.Nothing beats Proper guitar music.

to be fair to lewis1.it takes balls for a little band to slag off a big band just for attention.late of the pier aren't good enough or big enough to open for the enemy, or even the fucking ting ting's for that matter.how did the courteeners get noticed?liam fray slagged off bigger bands.all he was doing really was crying out for shitty little magazine's like nme to pay attention to his music.the enemy are supporting one of the biggest band's in the world this year, they write music about the real world.there fucking quality live.and comparing them to late of the pier is unspeakable.i'd rather gnaw my own arm off than listen to bands like late of the pier.

"Just imagine the first record has grown a set of bollocks and has got some stubble." ... So they're finally going into puberty? Be prepared for fuzzy beards and ranging voice pitches from The Enemy.

well, to be fair to you both kav11 and luketherifle, i can and will criticise them. they sold concert tickets? thats your reason for liking them? i could sell tickets for a show of a mockey doing a shit through the eye of a needle, they're clearly playing to a moronic, self-obsessed public, who dont know the differenced between art (in a musical context) and a poo on a stick, and secondly, your argument, and henceforth, grammar, screams dickhead, making both you, and them (the enemy), irrelevent and drab......... now fuck off

well.... i quite liked the enemy at first, but then i reckon they forgot about what they were meant to be about... started releasing half the album as singles, slagging off the monkeys, etc... hopefully they might comes back with something that will surprise people though, time will tell

Great lyrics, limited musicality.Im sure i'll buy album 2, I just hope these guys move on from the streets stuff more or less and get themselves a new place in rock. To me the debut was a bit too much of a sulk to be a great debut, the sound was too underproduced, too simplistic. The lyrics were consistantly great tho, but they don't have much of a sound, akin the Arctic Monkeys or Oasis. (I don't listen to much 'indie' btw)Maybe because Oasis have spoiled me and I like my working class bands to have a wall of sound like a tsanami or maybe the Enemy need something to set them apart from all the other indie bands nobody gives a dam about other than just quality of their song manship. Heres hoping.

the enemy are mint! so what if they are well liked now its just a bit pathetic to not like them because there successful. and late of the pier dont even write proper music there just irritating trendy no ones who will disapear when someone "cooler" comes

Jesus Christ! So when did it get to the point that being a music fan became synonymous with slagging off bands you don't like. There is another option - just don't pay any attention to any of those bands and stop making immature comments just to annoy fans.

to Scheeeeling: well done to The Enemy on selling out your academy dates. but im afraid it still doesn't make me like you. as for luketherifle, i've been a fan of the 'Pier way before they hit the NME. and i still hate The Enemy, but love guitar music. some like The Enemy, some don't. that's just the way it is.

I really don't like LOTP.And I'm from Nottingham, so I am, by rights, supposed to.So I think The Enemy win that one.

jonwl89

Jan 4, 2009

ahhh yes we must have all forgot that popularity with people culturally relevant over a decade ago automatically makes you amazing. Also them being popular makes them good by your logic scmeeeeling right? So Take That > Oasis at the moment by that logic and my god i think we all know somethings not right about that. The Enemy are not a "proper" band they're a knock off band making dull music that wasn't even cutting edge in the early 90's, trading off the back of Oasis' 2 good albums and 2 alright ones doesn't make you good or should i say "proper", it makes you boring.

maffyou1

Jan 5, 2009

My god, when will you people stop arguing over musical taste! I like Oasis and the Enemy, if you don't then, fair play, don't listen to them! But stop thinking your opinion is fact, everyone likes different music, get over it!

procdoc

Jan 5, 2009

who are late of the pier? Are they one of those new hipster bands who are quite rubbish but 'cool' NME readers have to like them because if they don't they won't be seen as part of the 'scene'? The Enemy's 2nd album probably won't be that great but I'll reserve judgement until I've heard it. That's something people on here should do before shouting the odds.
