The Fall frontman honoured at home town festival

Mark E Smith's lyrics are to be honoured at the Manchester International Festival in the form of a collection of surreal short stories.

The summer event will see the launch of Perverted By Language, a book of literary works which draw inspiration from The Fall’s songs.

Contributors will read excerpts from Perverted By Language on July 1 at The Ritz before the post-punk icons themselves perform a special show for the festival.

The Fall have a history of creating music in a unique and idiosyncratic way,” says Festival Director Alex Poots.

“This approach has been mirrored with Perverted By Language, with their songs generating a surreal collection of stories.”
