Mercury Rev release a new single - 'Opus 40' - on May 10, the third track to be lifted from 'Deserter's Songs'. It's backed with three covers: 'Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head', the Bacharach/David standard originally recorded by BJ Thomas though covered by The Manic Street Preachers on the 'Help' album; Bob Dylan's syrupy ode to JFK 'He Was A Friend Of Mine'; Neil Young's 'Motion Pictures' and Nikki Sudden's 'Silver Street'.

The Rev go on tour with Jonathan Donahue's previous band The Flaming Lips supporting at:

Dublin Olympia (April 29 & 30) Aberdeen Music Hall (May 2) Edinburgh Potters Row (3) Nottingham Rock City (4) Oxford Brookes University (6) Norwich UEA (8) Leicester De Monfort University (9) Sheffield Octagon (11) Liverpool L2 (12)

The Flaming Lips - whose new album 'The Soft Bulletin' is out on May 10 - are planning to perform Car Park when they play at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark. Car Park involves around 50 cars playing their car stereos as directed by Wayne Coyne, playing a pre-recorded tape. Two years ago they brought their more portable boom-box version to London Kentish Town Forum with an all-star orchestra of operators.

Tickets for the UK shows only are available from nme.com's 24-hour ticketline on 0870 121 0125 or click here[/url] to go to our online gig guide and ticket service.
