Flaming Lips and Gnarls Barkley go head to head in London

The Flaming Lips and Gnarls Barkley went head to head at the 02 Wireless Festival in London tonight (June 23) - by both playing singles that topped the UK charts for nine weeks.

Gnarls Barkley, dressed in 'Clockwork Orange' boiler suits, sent the Hyde Park crowd wild in the afternoon by playing their massive chart-topping hit 'Crazy'. But The Flaming Lips played a popular classic themselves later on the Main Stage - a cover of Queen's classic 'Bohemian Rhapsody', which topped the UK charts for nine weeks in 1975, as well as being a Number One again after frontman Freddie Mercury's untimely death in 1991.

Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne told the massive crowd, "We were told not to play this if the football World Cup wasn't going well. But because it is, we're gonna play it."

The Oklahoma outfit also got a bit of help from NME.COM - editor Ben Perreau joined them onstage in a Santa outfit. The band were also helped out by aliens, huge spacemen and a pair of massive hands that Coyne used to conduct the crowd.

Later, Massive Attack and DJ Shadow headlined the bash. Massive Attack sent the huge crowd home happy with a best of set that included 'Angel', 'Teardrop' and 'Unfinished Sympathy'.

The 02 Wireless Festival continues tomorrow (June 24) with a headline set from James Blunt. Depeche Mode headline on Sunday (June 25), the final night.
