The Flaming Lips remake NBC theme, design Guitar Hero super-axe
B-52s, BB King also put their spin on the chimes
Wayne Coyne and company joined the likes of The B-52s, BB King, T.I. and Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora, who all put their spin on the notes.
The remakes are part of a "national campaign calling for a 21st century reinvention of the 75-year-old television staple," according to Entertainment Weekly.
"The notes are set in stone as handed down from the Biblical creator," quipped Coyne in a video capturing the band's performance. "We think we'll get played during 'The Office' or '30 Rock' or something like that."
Videos of each band's unique performance are expected to be aired during commercial breaks on NBC television programmes including 'The Office' and 'Heroes'.
During the video, Coyne also showed off the double-neck guitar he designed, which has one traditional neck and another that resembles the 'Guitar Hero' video game model.
