The Go! Team kick off 2007 student tour in Edinburgh

NME Freshers Tour 07 Supported By Lowlife is literally 'Go!'

The Go! Team kick off 2007 student tour in Edinburgh
The NME Freshers Tour 2007 Supported By Lowlife kicked off in style at Edinburgh University Union tonight (September 26), with The Satin Peaches, Operator Please and headliners The Go! Team starting term time in suitably frenzied fashion.

Detroit-based garage rockers The Satin Peaches opened proceedings, drawing in the members of the crowd - who weren't guzzling the bar dry or out stealing traffic cones - with their primal, hypnotic and at times surprisingly poppy vibe.

The audience was small but receptive, as new single 'Well Well Well Well' and frontman George Morris' distinctive raspy vocals marked them out as ones to keep a close eye on.

Next up were Operator Please, whose giddy, off-kilter girl-pop went down a storm with the crowd, despite frontwoman Amandah's struggles with a guitar that she said sounded "like a gremlin".

However, the Australian five-piece overcame sound difficulties, delivering a frenetic set, which climaxed with early crowd favourite 'Just A Song About Ping Pong'.

It was The Go! Team who owned the night though. Arriving onstage to ear-blistering feedback and flashing strobes, Ninja and co delivered a breathless, energetic performance that sent the crowd wild.

Focusing mainly on new album 'Proof Of Youth' - the highlights of which were a deafening 'Titanic Vandalism' and 'Keys To The City' - during which Ninja pleaded with the audience to jump around even more "because it's my favourite song from the record".

The band's older material went down a storm as well though, with 'Bottle Rocket', ’Huddle Formation' and 'We Just Won't Be Defeated', dedicated to "everyone who's ever supported the band".

The band then rounded the night off with a terrific encore of 'Doing It Right' and an epic version of 'Ladyflash', before leaving a knackered and sweaty crowd of students to take to the streets of Edinburgh.
