Grateful Dead bassist has cancer

One of the founding members of The Grateful Dead has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Phil Lesh, who is 66, will have surgery in December.

In a statement on Phillesh.net the bassist wrote: “I fully expect to have a rapid and complete recovery. I am feeling energetic as always and all my scheduled appearances will occur as planned.

Lesh was one of the founding members of The Grateful Dead, who formed in 1965. After the band split in 1995 following leader Jerry Garcia’s death, Lesh rejoined the group in 2003 for a reunion tour.
